Since 1975, Catholic Charities has been resettling refugees, with the goal of moving them toward self-sufficiency and integration into American society. In 2008, Catholic Charities resettled 444 into the community.

Refugees are provided with assistance throughout each step of their resettlement in the Kansas City area. When refugees arrive in Kansas City, Catholic Charities Case Managers meet them at the airport and transport them to their new home. Volunteers provide refugees with Welcome Boxes, containing supplies for the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom and a full week’s supply of groceries. Refugees meet with Case Managers who provide help with socialization and acculturation, job training and employment development, education programming and elderly support.

Catholic Charities is one of only two organizations in Kansas City that accepts refugees through the Department of State Reception and Placement Program.
